Social Media & Privacy Settings

5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
KPL Southwest Neighborhood Library

Description

As social media and digital communication continue to expand, understanding how to protect yourself—and the people you care about—has never been more important. This session will cover essential online safety and security practices, including protecting personal information, managing privacy settings, and reducing digital risk.

We’ll also discuss how online stalking has become increasingly common, along with other forms of online harassment and digital abuse. Topics will include how these behaviors show up across social media, messaging apps, and other online platforms; warning signs to watch for; and why early recognition matters. The discussion will be informative, respectful, and grounded in real-world situations.

Participants will leave with trusted resources, a clear safety checklist, and actionable steps they can take to help protect themselves, friends, and family members online. No technical background is required—this program is designed for anyone who wants to feel more informed, prepared, and empowered in today’s digital spaces.

*Participants are encouraged to bring a phone, tablet, or computer if able, as we’ll walk through practical examples and settings you can apply to your own devices in real time. Suitable for adults and teens 12+, registration required.
